About Me....
Dance, Yoga, Health and Fitness are my passions!
Nothing excites me more than having the opportunity to share my passions with my students. They teach and inspire me to learn and grow in so many ways. It's a beautiful two-way street for which I'm very grateful!
I’m interested in anything having to do with the human body and continue to learn many movement modalities to satisfy my curiosity. I have certifications in Pilates, Gyrokinesis and Yoga (200-hour level E-RYT) as well as a massage therapy certification from the Ann Arbor Institute of Massage Therapy. In addition to being a teacher, I’m also a student working towards a yoga therapy certification (500-hour level) with the Beaumont School of Yoga Therapy.
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Dance, P.E. & Health, and my Master’s degree in Health from Wayne State University over 25 years ago and have taught ever since. While I was in school and a bit after I also danced professionally with several local dance companies, including: Detroit Dance Collective, Detroit City Dance Company and Cuban Festival Dancers. I've had the privilege of dancing in the Michigan Opera House's production of Giuseppe Verdi's Aida, Disney's première of Pocahontas at the Fox Theatre and with the legendary Aretha Franklin. I also studied at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Martha Graham School and the American Dance Festival. I am one of the founding members of the Michigan Dance Council and a current board member as well as the e-blast editor. Before coming to Ann Arbor, I taught for the Detroit and Farmington Public Schools developing the dance and yoga curriculums. This is my 4th year teaching in Ann Arbor, although I have lived here with my husband Andy, daughter Gabrielle, and part-time dog Mina since 2002.
In addition to teaching personal fitness and yoga at Community High School, I also teach Dance at Scarlett Middle School and Online Health classes with A2Virtual.
